June 4th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A soldier belonging to South Sudan’s army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLA) on Sunday, shot dead an IDP young man who was seeking shelter at the protection of civilian site manned by the United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), sources at the UN camp in the capital told the Nyamilepedia on Monday.

The incident, one source told the Nyamilepedia, took place at Protection of Civilian site one on Sunday evening at around 6:30pm.

The source added that the victim and others who survived the incident were playing football when he was killed by the suspected SPLA soldier.

“Sad news that we have lost a young man yesterday evening. The victim whose name Nhial Baneyieth was killed at POC one in Juba at 6:30 pm while playing football by a SPLA soldier who never had the reason to do so,” the source told the Nyamilepedia from Juba on the condition of anonymity.

Sites belonging to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has been the only  safest haven for thousands of Nuer people fleeing massacres and human right abuses by the South Sudan army and allied tribal militias since the outbreak of South Sudan’s civil war in December 2013.

The sites, however, have also been one of the safest places where the South Sudan’s soldiers fleeing rebels’ pursuits have seek protection at but have also used to target members of the Nuer tribe seeking shelter there.
