October 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government said on Wednesday that opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny will return to Juba between Thursday and Friday ahead of a visit by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Sunday.
The UNSC said in a statement on Tuesday that a delegation from the world body will visit Juba on Sunday and would meet President Salva Kiir and other stakeholders to the revitalized peace agreement.
The country’s undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation ambassador Mayen Dut said Machar would be in Juba either on Thursday or Friday to meet Kiir over the pending issues.
“Dr. Riek Machar will come to Juba on Thursday or Friday to discuss finding away forward on the outstanding critical issues on the implementation of the peace deal,” said Wednesday.
Currently, the government and opposition are on a loggerhead over the dispute on the number and boundaries of the states.
The government which introduced the increase of states wants the unity government formed before the parties could sit on the dispute.
For their part, Machar’s SPLM-IO and the National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin wants the issue settled first before the government could be formed.
