February 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan government and its peace partner, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) are planning to attack positions of holdout opposition alliance in Central Equatoria, according to a spokesman for the group.

Kwaje Lasu, the spokesman for the South Sudan National Democratic Alliance (SSNDA) said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday that government troops and fellow peace partner,  the SPLA-IO, are planning a offensive against their bases in Central Equatoria.

“According to our recent intelligence report, Mathiang Anyoor and the SPLM/A-IO are preparing to attack SSNDA positions in Rokon, Wonduruba, Lobonok, Katigeri and Mongala,” the statement issued on Sunday partly read.

Although it is not independently clear who has been on the offensive, a peace monitoring body, the CTSAMVM said last week that the situation in Yei river state,  a former Central Equatoria county,  remains volatile despite calm in some parts of the country.

The group further reiterated it’s commitment to the cessation of hostilities agreement signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in late  2017.

“SSNDA would like to inform its supporters, IGAD, AU, UN, Troika and the international community that we are committed to the CoHA of 201.

“However, the SSNDA will NOT entertain any aggression against its forces and people or any encroachment into its areas and positions of defense. Hence, SSNDA forces is in high alert and ready to engage when provoked,” the statement added.
