February 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The holdout opposition group, the National Salvation Front (NAS), led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka claimed in a statement on Tuesday that the government of South Sudan is on rampant killing against civilians in the Central Equatoria region.
This come a week after the UN envoy and head of the world body’s mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), David Shearer, told a news conference in New York that although the September 12 peace agreement helped stop political violent in some part of the country, fighting remains ongoing in Yei river state.
In a statement he issued on Tuesday, the NAS spokesman, Suba Micheal Manase, said government troops killed 13 civilians who includes four women, three children and two elderly people. Nyamilepedia could not independently verify this claim.
“It is regrettable to report that in these operations of reprisal by President Kiir tribal regime, the (SSPDF) killed 13 civilians; among them 4 women, 3 children and 2 elderly men. Carried out massive looting of cattle, goats and household materials, burnt houses including a church,” he said in the statement.
He further added that SSPDF reconnaissance unit in Mundri of the Western Equatoria state was ambushed on Monday by NAS troops killing around seven of them capturing their guns.
“In that operation, the gallant NAS forces killed seven (7) government militia and captured their guns in good condition,” he added.
