August 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan government official has joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
Joseph Madak Both who left the SPLM-IO and joined the government in 2017 said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia that he realized that the main armed opposition group is the way forward in bring about a sustainable change to South Sudan.
“I have been an active member of the SPLM/IO senior leadership team before my venturous resignation on 20th January 2017 to the SPLM/IG hoping to contribute in the national dialogue for revitalization and implementation of the Agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan – ARCISS signed on August 2015,” he said in the statement.
“ ….. one year since joining the SPLM/IG, I found out that the peoples’ movement (SPLM/IO) remain the hope for restoration of peace and tranquility in the country for REASONS that are known to us all inside and outside the country, who are profoundly hurt by the ongoing crisis,” he added.
He further praised the SPLM-IO and other peace partners “for their commitment to the R-ARCISS implementation in spirit-and-letter to ensure peace in our country.”
