April 28th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior government official has confirmed that South Sudan President,  Salva Kiir Mayardiit, will not attend a meeting due with opposition leaders in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This came following social media rumors claiming that Kiir has decided to send a representative to the Ethiopian capital to attend the meeting on his behalf.

Addis Ababa is the place where President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other opposition leaders signed the revitalized peace agreement in September last year to end the war.

In a writen response to the Nyamilepedia, a government official said on the condition of anonymity that President Salva Kiir has decided to delegate another person rather than him going.

“President Salva has a lot to do including the preparation for the upcoming government which is only two weeks from now. So,  he decided to delegate another person which shall be made public soon,” the official told the Nyamilepedia from Juba.

“South Sudan’s peace is in a very critical stage now and leaders must be vigilant to detractors aimed at destroying this peace,” the official added.

Last week,  the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ismail Wais, invited Kiir, Machar and SSOA leaders to attend to Addis Ababa for consultative meeting over the slow peace implementation.

Machar has confirmed that he will attend the meeting that is due on Thursday.
