January 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government forces are building up in the country’s Maiwut state to attack SPLA-IO forces station there, opposition official said.
The news come days after the SPLM-IO accused a government-allied militia force of attacking its position in Jekow. Residents have told the Nyamilepedia that the fighting has displaced several neighborhoods in the area.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, a South Sudan opposition official allied to the country’s first vice president designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny said government forces have reinforced forces belong to ex-SPLA-IO general who defected to join the government in August last year.
He said they have gathered credible information that government troops have been airlifted from Malakal and some have crossed from Nasir town raising fear over the fate of the already fragile peace agreement.
“We have gathered some credible information which are enough to tell you that the government in Juba have sent a reinforcement to the forces of General Ochan Puot,” the official said.
“They were airlifted from Malakal town and some of the forces came from Nasir,” he added.
He denied social media reports that the government-allied militia has captured Jekow base of the SPLA-IO along the Ethiopian border which has been under the control of the main armed opposition group since the eruption of the conflict in December 2013.
