Government disowns controversial woman Afekuru Animu

Juba, South Sudan, 22 May 2021 – The South Sudan government through the Ministry of Youth has disowned controversial and embattled wannabe legislator Afekuru Animu Rasai after she was seen masquerading as a representative from the ministry in a virtual conference.

At the event held on Zoom on 17th May 2021, Animu posed as a Strategic Advisor to the Minister of Youths and Sports in South Sudan. This annoyed Dr. Albino Bol, the Minister of Youths and Sports.

In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, Albino explicitly dismissed the claim that Animu was holding any advisory portfolio in his ministry, adding that the ministry was recently reconstituted and no advisor has been appointed so far.

Mr. Bol also assured that the alleged portfolio being faked by Animu is not among the designated positions by the Public Service, urging the people of South Sudan and youths in particular to disregard such news.

“Afekuru Animu Rasai is not an employee of the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” Bol clarified.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports would like to caution the public that the above-mentioned individual is not our employee and any person dealing with her shall do so on his/her own risk and responsibility”, Bol added warned.

Ms. Animu has been going through identity-related issues. Two weeks ago, she was appointed to Parliament on the ticket of OPP.

However, her appointment to the reconstituted TNLA caused uproar later, especially from the constituency she claimed to represent.

Leaders from her alleged community denounced her citing a lack of clarity on her origin and social background, something which makes her nationality illusive. Animu is one of the appointees on the OPP ticket that stand high chances of getting ejected on concerns of invalid nominations.

One month ago, a document was circulated on social media and other media platforms identifying Ms. Animu as a Ugandan national but when asked to comment she did not.

When contacted by Nyamilepedia for comment today through WhatsApp, she declined to respond though she read our queries as shown by double blue ticks.
