December 10th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has denied a report released on December 7th by the Amnesty International that the number of executions in the world’s youngest nation is on the rise.

The advocacy group said on Friday that it is alarmed by the rise in the number of execution in South Sudan condemning the execution of a child which has been on a death row as well in the country’s Juba Central Prison.

In a statement to the media, Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan’s Presidential Press Secretary, said he is not sure of where the rights group obtained the information about any recent executions in the country saying there is already a moratorium in place on the death penalty which has been there since 2013.

“I don’t know where Amnesty International got this information,” Ateny said. “There is no execution because we have put a moratorium on the death penalty since 2013.”

Ateny further said the report execution of a child is not true saying the South Sudanese culture cannot accept it as it is something not already there.

“The culture of South Sudan cannot accept it,” Ateny said of the alleged execution of the child who has been on death row for few years.
