August 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former SPLA Chief of Staff General Oyai Ajak has denied media reports that he was working to form or join rebellion against the government of President Salva Kiir.
This came after media reports in June quoting him as saying that he was in contact with rebel groups for the possibility of joining the armed opposition to fight the government in Juba.
In an exclusive interview with Nyamilepedia Wednesday, General Ajak said from the Kenyan capital Nairobi that he was misquoted by the media when he reportedly said he was in contact with opposition groups.
“When I said ‘I am communicating’ and ‘I am talking,’ it means I am talking to my colleagues within SPLM/A who have ran away from Salva Kiir and who have ran away from Riek Machar,” General Oyai said. “I am talking to them because I want them to come back to SPLM/A policy and program.”
He accuse President Salva Kiir of not pursuing SPLM vision and policies saying he wants to bring back those who have ran away from his rule so that a new approach is used to reorganize the SPLM party.
“What Salva Kiir is doing in Juba is not SPLM policy and is not a SPLM program,” he said.
“I want all these friends who have ran away from SPLM/SPLA, I want to bring them back and we want to reorganize … reactivate the real SPLM policy and program that galvanize the marginalized people of the Sudan,” he added.
