Gen. Stephen Buay Rolnyang establishes two political Fronts in a new geo-political setting!

Aug 16, 2021 — The interim Chairman of the South Sudan People Movement/Army, General Stephen Buay Rolnyang, divides the Republic of South Sudan into two political fronts for his political and military mobilization.

According to Gen. Stephen Buay, the Republic of South Sudan should be divided into two geographical and political fronts namely, Western Nile Front and Eastern Nile Front.

“In pursuance of policy of appointments and formation of political leadership, and in order to avoid tribalism in the SSPM/A, I, General Stephen Buoy Rolnyang, interim chairman and commander in chief of the SSPM/A, do hereby divide the Republic of South Sudan into two geographical and political fronts” Gen. Stephen Buay said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

According to the interim chairman and commander in chief of the SSPM/A, Western and Eastern Nile Fronts will consist of the following states:

  • “Western Nile Front and shall comprise of the following states:
  1. Unity state
  2. Warrap state
  3. Northern Bhar El Ghazal state
  4. Western Bhar El Ghazal state
  5. Lakes State
  6. Western Equatoria state
  7. Central Equatoria state
  8. Abyei administrative area
  9. Ruweng Administrative area (Panaru)
  • Eastern Nile Front and shall comprise of the following states.
  1. Upper Nile state
  2. Jonglei state
  3. Eastern Equatoria state
  4. Pibor Administrative area”

In such a division, Gen. Stephen Buay explains that if the chairman and commander in chief comes from the either side of the front, the deputy chairman and commander in chief will come from the other side of the front.

In addition, the political positions of the national executive committee and other lower political positions in the SSPM will be appointed fairly or equitably depending on the competence and capability of those who will be appointed to positions of the national executive committee (NEC) in the South Sudan People’s Movement.

Gen. Stephen Buay has been a long-term loyalist to SPLM/A. He served under Dr. Riek Machar in 1990s and served under President Kiir since 2000s to 2018; however, he recently broke ties with President Kiir following his controversial arrest that stripped off his military ranks.

Since his defection in May, Stephen Buay served under Gen. Paul Malong Awan, the former Chief of General of SPLA-turned rebel and defected from Malong this month to establish his own movement, the South Sudan People Movement/Army.
