Gen. Peter Gatdet Responses To Speculations – Not A Personal Grudge With Dr. Riek Machar!

March 11, 2015(Nyamilepedia)  —– Concerned of recent developments on social media, the defected general Peter Gatdet Yak, has called on the South Sudanese communities, particularly the Nuer, to be patience.

“To the South Sudanese communities in general. Salutation, I am Gen Peter Gatdet very pleased to inform all South Sudan communities to acknowledge what happening on social media.” Gen. Gatdet salutes through Nyamilepedia.

Gen. Gatdet advised our editorial team that he has learned speculations through his social media claiming that he has re-joined SPLM/SPLA under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny, a claim he denies.

“However, I would like you to know and understand that what you heard and read from social media that I General Peter Gatdet Yak, and my group reunite with Riek machar or SPLA-IO not factual, I strongly dismissed that misinformation regarding misinterpretation.” Gatdet said.

According to general Gatdet, his defection from IO was not a personal issue with Dr. Riek Machar to be negotiated behind closed doors but a disagreement on ideas.

The major general, who has promoted himself to ranks of  1st Lt. General, reminds South Sudanese that he disagreed with SPLM/SPLA-IO leadership for signing an agreement, particularly the Arusha Tripartite SPLM Reunification Agreement without addressing the root causes of the conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands of his Nuer ethnic group.

“We, the defected Generals from SPLA -IO disagreed with Riek Machar because of Arusha-peace deal otherwise the agreement between me Gen Peter Gatdet and Dr. Riek won’t be done in the corner and it should not be secret reconciliation among South Sudanese communities, therefore, it must be public and known.” Gatdet continued.

Gatdet reiterates his commitment to continue the war until the root causes are addressed, assuring that his returns to SPLA will be negotiated in public following major consultations.

Although feeling betrayed, Gatdet reminds his supporters that he has no personal grudges with Dr. Riek Machar and when need be, the public will be consulted before the defected generals reached any agreement with Dr. Riek.

“Dr. Riek Machar betrayed me (Gen Peter Gatdet) and that is why I disagreed with him because he did not fulfill our objectives or made any guarantees before signing any peace agreement. Therefore we would like to inform all the communities if want to negotiate with Riek Machar, you need to be consulted before any agreement and that was why I wrote this message to you particularly Nuer in order to know that we are not reunited with Riek Machar (SPLA-IO)” Partly reads the statement.

Gen. Gatdet defected from the SPLA in Opposition in mid 2015 along with other well known generals in what was believed to be a major crisis in SPLM/SPLA-IO leadership, however, the generals and a few other politicians are yet to gain their momentum.

While nearly half of the group has reached an agreement with Salva Kiir government and are expected to retun to Juba any time soon, the other half has remained in exile in Sudan and Kenya with little hope that they may influence any major external power.

The split among the generals and politicians under 1st. Lt. General Peter Gatdet has left very little hopes that the “war of root causes” may materialize.

While Hon. Gabriel Changson and Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth are wrangling over the ownership of the name of the splitting party, former members of parliament siding with Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth, who are fed up of war, are renegotiating their returns to Juba under the table, a development that seems to bother Gen. Gatdet.

Don’t worry Generations Gatdet Yak, majority of Nuer had captured your objective as bribed warrior. You have let us down started mysteriously but gradually the truth is revealing itself. It is why you seem lukewarm in declaring your deceptive choice.

I personally won’t blame any South Sudanese for having no faith in any peace agreement that includes maintaining kiir as the president and ignores the drafting of a new constitution or pushes under the carpet the issue of accountability for crimes committed since December/2013. The general has spoken with convictions that Nuers, the problematic lost herds after Machar should pay attention to. I am almost certaint that the Nuers will find out the hard way like always and General Gadet will later tell the Nuers that he told them not to fall for such a shambled peace.

Mr Bolgatjang
You seem like your not aware about reality in South Sudan arenas, because these generals are upset with weaknesses of Mr Machar who did not know to fight the war and win the war. Since the conflict started, Mr Machar did not produce any tactic to defeat kiir armiesand when you try to present him the right course to win the war , would refuse and missed you. These are not a good leadership behaviours.
