November 18th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the opposition group, the South Sudan United Movement (SSUM) Gen. Peter Gatdet Yak Majiek said on Friday that refusal by the leader of the National Salvation Front (NAS) Thomas Cirilo to sign the revitalized peace agreement will not affect the ongoing process to end the ongoing civil war.

Cirilo’s NAS was a part of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Gabriel Changson Chang like until September when it pulled out of talks in Khartoum citing what it calls refusal by the mediation to solve issues ranging from federalism and the question of the number of states during the would-be transitional period.

In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Friday at his residence in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, Gen. Peter Gatdet said Cirilo will not affect the ongoing peace process because the agreement has addressed almost all the issues raised by the opposition.

“Cirilo will not affect the agreement. almost all the issues raised by the opposition has been addressed during the talks in Khartoum,” Gatdet told the Nyamileppedia when asked whether the refusal by Cirilo will affect the implementation of the agreement.

He said Cirilo has no any other agenda rather than fighting for the Equatoria region which he said is not the objective of all the opposition to fight the regime in Juba.

South Sudan president, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar in September signed the revitalized agreement to end the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.

The agreement came as a part of regional effort lead by the regional body, the IGAD, to end the South Sudan civil war which started in December 2013 following a flare-up of violence at a National Convention for the ruling SPLM party igniting a civil war mostly fought along ethnic lines.
