Nairobi, Kenya
October 15,2021—The Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF), Gen. Paul Malong Awan, is pleading to President Kiir to pardon him and also to give him a second chance to work together again as brothers who shared many years of historic revolutionary struggle.
According to Gen. Malong, who defected three years ago following his removal as the SSPDF chief of General Staff, he apologized to President Kiir from the bottom of his heart and said his rebellion against the government was due to frustration and anger which he realized was all his fault.
“Your Excellency, I heartily apologize to you as a brother who is also my leader since the SPLM/A days for all the hurtful words, actions and disrespect of any form that were directed at you as person and your leadership either by me or my aids, friends and family and I accept that all were my making and please forgive me for being irresponsible and offer me another chance to prove myself as your worthy brother and a friend “, Gen. Malong stated in a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.
In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia yesterday, October 14, 2021, Gen. Malong also stated that he is going to dissolve his movement and will return back to the country without any precondition provided that President Kiir will accept him back.
” I am calling upon you for my return to the country. I have realized that I was wrong in all the matters that led to conflict between you and I, and I am ready to renounce South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) and move back to the country as brother without precondition “, he added.
Gen. Paul Malong Awan is the former Chief of General Staff of the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) and a former governor of Northern Bhar el Ghazel State.
He formed his armed rebellion, the South Sudan United Front/Army, three years ago following his removal as SSPDF Chief of General Staff and has remained in exile since then.
Attempts to negotiate a peace deal with President Kiir through Rome-Italy and Naivasha-Kenya seem not to be gaining momentum so far.
