In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, cde. James Kalany Mamuon, the Press Secretary in the office of the Interim leader of Kitgwang Faction said two days ago that the defection of Gen. William Gatjiath Deng will not affect the movement but urged him to hand over the documents.

The opposition official said Gen. Gatjiath defected alongside another senior General identified as Gen. Gattiek Diar Rial, the third most senior general in Kitgwang faction.

Gen. William Gatjiath Deng served initially as the Deputy Military Spokesman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In-Opposition under the main opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

On 4th of August 2021, Gen. Gatjiath Deng orchestrated the move that would result in Kitgwang Declaration that claimed to have ousted Dr. Riek Machar Teny as the leader of the SPLM/A-IO. He then became its official military spokesman.

On Sunday, the breakaway faction signed a little peace deal with South Sudan government in Sudanese the capital, Khartoum, but Gen. Gattiek and Gatjiath were no where to be seen as they already travelled to Juba.
