February 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The deputy chairperson of South Sudan United Movement (SSUM) led by de facto SSOA leader Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka has resigned from his position and from the group citing lack of clarity of Gatdet’s vision.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Gen. John Gattial Riak also said segregation by Gatdet as well as violations of the revitalized peace agreement by the SSUM leader also contributed to his resignation.
“I Lt. Gen John Gattial Riak, Deputy Chairman of South Sudan United Movement/Army Force (SSUM/SSUAF) under the leadership of Peter Gatdet resigned due to lack of clear visions to ran the Movement,” he said in the statement that attended to the Nyamilepedia.
Gattial said he also defected to protest “Act of political segregation, violation of implementing the revitalized peace deal and the total violation of its procedures.”
Gattial said he defected along several army officers as well as good number of soldiers but did not mention if he will form his own or he will join any side.
“It’s with great gratitude that I officially resigned from this movement along with several other high ranking officers,” he said.
He further said several rebel military officers including the group’s Director of Police, Director of Prison as well as the group’s Director of CID detected with him, a claim the Nyamilepedia could not independently verify.
The statement further urged the international community “to condemn these acts and violations by Gatdet in strongest term possible because it jeopardize peace.”
