Gathering of Nuer community youth body in Uganda calls for peace, unity

December 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A meeting of Nuer Christian Youth for Peace and Development (NCYPD) held for three days in Uganda’s capital Kampala has ended with calls for peace and unity in South Sudan.

Held under the theme: “Kɛn ti gor kɛ i bi ruac kɛ Naath ɛ kan mi tekɛ luth Kuoth kɛnɛ mal kamni Naath,” the meeting was attended by more than 400 people from across several church denominations in Uganda.

These includes the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and Sudan, St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nazarene and Christian Temple Church in Uganda to discuss issues affected youth through peaching a word of God.

The aim of the peace conference is to promote peace, unity and national reconciliation among Nuer communities and South Sudanese residing in Uganda,” said Rev. John Yual Nguth co- founder of NCYPD and leading a pastor at Nazarene Christian in Kampala.

Stephen Lieh Machot Gai, a pastor train at First Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and Sudan, said “peace will comes when we tolerance each other and accept our own mistakes whether a political leader a, religious leader in South Sudan.”

Ater Jock a head of Christian Temple Church said: “We are all equal in the eye of God and deserves equal treatment.”

Manyang Gatwech, a leading human rights defender and National Coordinator of Network of South Sudan Civil Society Organizations in Uganda urged the participants to use “this golden opportunity to promote human rights, peace whether at the grassroots, national and international levels to work towards for a better South Sudan. We want South Sudan that will be admire by everybody in Africa and world at large.”

He also request religious leaders to put more pressure on Kiir and Machar to form Unity Government in February 2020 without further delays.
