March 22, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — Son of the SPLM founder and South Sudan’s deputy interior minister designate Mabior Garang de’Mabior has appealed to the people of South Sudan to reconcile as the country’s long-awaited unity government is formed.
Garang who is also a senior member of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar made the remarks at the Juba PoC where he first visit following his return from exile on Friday.
He said in a brief speech that the people of South Sudan owns the peace and not to look out to the country’s political leaders in J1.
“Peace should not be the peace of Dr Machar and Salva Kiir but it should be the peace of the people,” he told reporters.
“So people in the IDPs camps and refugees should start working for peace because peace does not come from J1 (the presidency) but emanates from the people of South Sudan,” he added.
Mabior who had been designated to take up the deputy minister if interior is yet to take oath of office as he first refused to take up the post over the pending issues of the revitalized peace deal such as the security arrangements.
He threatened to resign from the position if certain provisions of the agreement, such as the security arrangements, are not completed by eight months
He is expected to swear in next week.
