September 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President who is currently in New York, United States, to attend the 73rd annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has urged the world body, ‘including those who are sceptical’ to give peace a chance in South Sudan.

Deng was speaking yesterday before the world body’s meeting when he urged the United Nations to give peace a chance in South Sudan.

“I call upon the UN family including those who are sceptical to give peace a chance in the Republic of South Sudan by supporting the critical implementation phase of the peace agreement,” Deng said referring to a peace deal signed early this month in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa by Kiir, the President, and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar.

deng did not identify those he termed as “skeptical” but the Troika, United States,  Britain and Norway recently voiced concerns and questioned the commitment of the rival South Sudan leaders in ending the ongoing conflict.

He reiterated the commitment of his government in cooperating with the world body as well as regional organizations among which is IGAD which brokered the September 12th revitalized deal.

“The Republic of South Sudan will continue it’s cooperation with the UN, the regional bodies: IGAD, EAC, AU,  EU, the Troika, China, other international partners and all our friends as we work to enhance conditions in our country,” Deng further told the UN General Assembly.

“We call upon you all as partners to support, cooperate, consult and dialogue as we together partner in achieving your agenda for making UN relevant to all people,” he added.
