August 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai is set to vacate the position for the return of the Former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhugon, according to his spokesman.
According to Taban Deng’s spokesman Agel Machar, Taban made the resignation public in a meeting he held on Friday in Juba with the Sudanese Foreign Minister who is also the Chief mediator for the South Sudanese parties.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Agel Machar said Taban Deng has announced his step-down during a meeting with the Sudanese chief negotiator, Al-Dirdiri Ahmed.
“I will be remised if I do not mention that the First Vice President himself, he is the most senior government official that has step-down from his position for the sake of the peace in this country,” he said.
The South Sudanese government, the SPLM-IO under the leadership of the former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar are set to sign a final peace agreement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Sunday.
