October 23, 2021—The former Information Minister of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Alfred Derick Uya has passed away in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on Tuesday.
According to one of the relatives identified as Cosmus Elias, who spoke to Radio Tamazuj, the 59-year-old former minister died after he developed severe illness and was rushed to a hospital where he went into a coma, and later died.
“Actually, I got the information on Tuesday that he was admitted in the hospital and he went into a coma until he died at around 6 PM,” said Elias. “The cause of death is a kidney failure, and then there was bleeding in the brain.”, Said relative Elias.
He said that burial of the decreased will be arranged in no time but are still in process on whether the body will be flown to South Sudan or will be buried in Khartoum.
“Right now, we are still in negotiation on the process of whether we should bring him or bury him in Khartoum. We are still not sure,” he added.
Derrick served as a state information minister in 2012, and later on appointed to head the state Arts and Cultures Commission in 2015.
The governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Hon. Sarah Cleto mourns her death and said “his demise is a great loss to South Sudan and Western Bahr El-Ghazal in particular”.
