October 9th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s group of exiled politicians of the ruling SPLM known as the SPLM former detainees have ratified the revitalized agreement almost one month after its signature in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In a letter addressed to the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) dated 6th October, the exiled politicians said they have taken the decision to ratify the agreement signed on September 12th in teh Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa although it is not perfect.

“Pursuant to Article 8.1 of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) the SPLM Leaders (Former Political Detainees/ FDs) met on 5th October, 2018 and considered the following matters: (1) the Process of HLRF that eventually led to the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan and (2) Ratification of R-ARCSS,” they said in a letter seen by the Nyamilepedia.

The group reiterated their support for the peaceful settlement of the ongoing conflict in South Sudan urging other warring parties to genuinely commit to the implementation of the agreement in ending the war.

“We support the negotiated end to violence in our country; a conflict that has inflicted untold pain and suffering on millions of our people over the course of the last five years. We appeal to all South Sudanese parties and stakeholders to genuinely commit themselves to ending this senseless violence as agreed in R-ARCSS,” they said in the letter.

They said in the statement that alhtough the agreement known as Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) is not perfect, there is need that it is implemented as it is the case for every agreement.
