September 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior member of the main armed opposition group SPLM-IO has said that a formation of a committee to deliberate on the report of the IBC violates the revitalized peace agreement.
Last week, President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny said – following a meeting in Juba – that they have agreed to form a committee to deliberate on the IBC report.
According to the two men, if that committee fail to product solution, then the matter would pass to them for a final decision on the number and borders of states.
Nathaniel Pierino, a senior member of the SPLM-IO who is also a member of the National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC), told the Nyamilepedia in an exclusive interview this afternoon that he is opposed to the formation of the committee formed to deliberate on the IBC report saying it would violates the revitalized peace deal.
“The IBC reports should not be subjected to scrutiny by small committee,” Pierino said. “this will undercut the procedure stipulated in the agreement.”
He said the “IBC [independent Boundaries Committee] is an entity established by IGAD the parties should exhaust the requisite procedures within IGAD structures the the council of ministers and summit.”
He said Kiir and Machar should not force themselves on the matter saying their interference would violates the agreement and would be faulted.
“The procedure stated in the agreement included having IGAD council of ministers and summit pronouncing themselves on the matter will be faulted,” he said.
