April 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, has left the capital Juba heading to the Vatican ahead of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and prominent opposition leaders who are expected in the Vatican on Tuesday.
Kiir in March visited the Vatican where he met Pope Francis who later on invited him, and other opposition leaders for a spiritual retreat that is aimed at confidence-building between the arch rivals who have been leading separate forces in the ongoing conflict.
Speaking to the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporations (SSBC), the Press Secretary for the Office of the First Vice President, Agel Machar, said the President will follow after the FVP’s taking off in the next two days.
“The First Vice President of the Republic, H.E Gen. Taban Deng Gai is taking off for the Holy See in the Vatican ahead of President of the Republic who will shortly take off tomorrow or after tomorrow at the invitation of his Holiness, Pope Francis,” he said.
