First Vice President Machar returns to work

June 15, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has returned to work today after more than one month in self-quarantine, his spokesman has said.

James Gatdet Dak, the press secretary for the first vice president, said Machar who was tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-May returned to work today after doctors discharged him after a second test for Machar and his wife returned negative last week.

Machar and his wife Angelina Teny are among senior government officials who had been tested for the virus.

The others who were tested for the virus, but have recovered, include information minister Michael Makuei, vice president Igga and vice president Hussein Abdelbaggi.

“H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, the First Vice President of the Republic, has resumed his public office duties today, Monday, 15 June, 2020, after recovering from the COVID-19,” James Gatdet Dak, Machar’s press secretary said today.

“This is after his official discharge last week after testing negative twice in accordance with the follow up guidelines from the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO),” Gatdet added.
