First Vice President Machar meets Egyptian President, Al-Sisi

Nov 28, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has met the Egyptian President, His Excellency Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, on Saturday November 28 in the capital, Juba.

“Today in Juba, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with South Sudan’s First Vice President Riek Machar.” reads part of the Egyptian presidential press statement.

According to the Egyptian press release, the two leaders discussed means to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries and the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“The meeting touched on means to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries as well as exchange views on Egypt’s support to efforts to implement the milestones of the peace agreement terms in South Sudan in order to realize stability and development in the country.” The Statement continued.

The Egyptian president visited South Sudan for the first time this morning where he was received by President Salva Kiir and later met Dr. Machar, the First Vice President who holds major stakes in the peace process.

In other reports, El- Sisi discussed numerous bilateral relations especially on how Egypt could help South Sudan develop its economy, health, education, Nile water and security with president Salva Kiir.

“The two leaders agreed on the need to enhance mutual cooperation in areas of education, healthcare, media, energy, trade and investment, and infrastructural connectivity especially with respect to road and rail links.” President Kiir’s office said earlier today.

The Egyptian president also praised South Sudan’s efforts in mediating the Sudanese government and rebel factions leading to the signing of the Sudanese peace deal in Juba last month, October 3, 2020.
