Fire guts Bentiu POC site, one dead and “uncountable” shops and houses burned

February 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A fire broke out this afternoon inside the Protect of Civilians (POC) site manned by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Bentiu town, residents have said.

One source told the Nyamilepedia that a five-year old boy has died after he was caught by fire inside one of the houses adding that 200 houses and 100 shops were burned to ashes.

“At 6:00PM, a fire burned 200 house and 100 shops killing a five-year old boy,” the source said.

Another person who said he has some relatives who lost shops and a house in the POC told the Nyamilepedia that Sector five of Block Eight caught fire that almost consumed everything.

“Yes sector five (5) of block eight (8) in Bentiu PoC caught fire this afternoon. Many shops and house that can not be counted were burned,” the man who I designed himselve as Puok told the Nyamilepedia.

Everything spring,  thousands of grass-made houses in many parts of South Sudan are exposed to fire owing to chance of weather.
