June 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan is today set to announce the final verdict on detained human rights activist, Peter Biar Ajak, according to a family member.
Biar was arrested in late July last year at Juba’s airport while heading to Northern Bahr El-Ghazal state capital Aweil to attend a Red Army function organized there.
He was later charged with terrorism and treason which he and members of his family denied.
In an email to the Nyamilepedia this morning, Yar Ajak, Biar’s younger sister, said she hopes his brother will plead not guilty as she believes he did nothing wrong against the law.
“As a sister to Peter Biar Ajak, it is my prayers that justice will prevail and everything will go in his favor. I am 100% sure that my brother is very innocent and deserves to be out of that prison,” she said.
“We as a family have been in deep pain, suffering and it’s been sad seeing our loved one being held for no apparent reason for almost a year. In his final hearing, we hope for the best. We are all looking forward to celebrating his release,” she added.
