March 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting has erupted between armed youths from South Sudan’s Mayom and Abiemnom counties of Unity State over the weekend after rival youths accused each other of stealing cattle.
A senior government official from Mayom county who spoke to the Nyamilepedia on Saturday said armed youths from Abiemnom county had stolen cattle at a village called Bieh Nyang in Mayom killing seven people on Friday.
“A group of armed men from Abiemnom attacked unarmed civilians in Bieh Nyang on Friday. Seven people were killed including a woman, a child and an old man,” the government official told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity on Saturday.
Another source told the Nyamilepedia that a Payam government official in Bieh Nyang was among the people killed but could not disclose the name as he said he was not allowed to comment on the matter.
“I can not tell you. He is a government official of the Payam in Bieh and I am not allowed to talk on this,” the government official told the Nyamilepedia on Saturday.
