November 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Fighting between United Nations Peace-keepers and internally displaced youth has killed two people and wounded eight others, the UN mission in South Sudan said in a statement on Monday.
“Youth also tried to seize weapons from the peacekeepers and vandalized two guard-posts. Two warning shots were fired into the air to disperse the rioters,” the UN said in the statement.
“UNMISS is carrying out an investigation into the rioting, including the death of the two young men involved. Community leaders are assisting with this process,” it added.
A source in the IDP camp in Bentiu that “community leaders who condemned the fighting apologized to the UN mission because they believe the youth did mistake and they said such actions could jeopardize the safety of the internally displaced people inside the camp.”
The Nyamilepedia also learned that a team from the main armed opposition group met with the youth inside the camp to advise them on how important the UN protection is to those displaced by the conflict.
