November 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting has reportedly erupted this morning near Yei between South Sudan government troops and forces belonging to National Salvation Front (NAS) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka.
A resident said from Yei that fighting broke out at 6 am between government troops and NAS forces in an area recently controlled by the holdout opposition group.
“Fighting took place this morning but what I know so far is that it has stopped,” he said. “The area is a place under the control of the Thomas Cirilo forces,” the source said.
Cirilo is not a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement. He pulled out of peace talks in Khartoum saying the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit was monopolizing the talks. He is calling for renegotiation of the agreement.
