July 10th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The family of the former spokesman of the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon have appealed to South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit to pardon and release James Gatdet Dak as a part of the permanent ceasefire agreement signed last month in the Sudanese capital Khartoum by Salva Kiir himself and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
James Gatdet Gatdet was deported from Kenya by the South Sudanese security agents and subsequently flown to the capital Juba where he was finally sentenced to death by hanging for charges of treason.
Gatdet was sentenced to 25 years in jail for another charge.
In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia today, the family denied the social media rumors that the former Machar spokesman had been release.
“The family of James Gatdet Dak do hereby informing the public to disregard the ’fake news’ being circulated on social medias about “James being released,” a statement issued by Paul Tesloach Dak who said is Gatdet’s younger brother partly read.
The statement further asked President Salva Kiir to release not only Gatdet, but the release should include all the political prisoners in the country as provided for in the recently Khartoum Declaration of Agreement.
“We absolutely wished the president Kiir to bless the peace accord signed in Khartoum by not only releasing James Gatdet Dak but all political detainees as a good gesture of Hope for all South Sudanese to believe this is a meaningful document,” the statement further said.
