December 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A former South Sudan female diplomat has accused the country’s ambassador to Italy of sexually abusing her.
Mariam Maneno Idra, was a second secretary at South Sudan embassy in Rome when Ambassador Ajing Adiang Marek, the head of South Sudan mission in Italy, begun to sexually harass her in 2015.
The accusation has sparked controversy on social media and has revived debate on corruption in the Foreign Service of the world’s youngest nation.
What really happened to Mariam?
In 2015, while at the South Sudan embassy in Rome, Ambassador Ajing eyed Mariam, a mother of two, for sexual fortune. Mariam said the top envoy to the European country made sexual advances which she turned down.
At this point, Ajing began to target Mariam.
“When I turned him down he started bullying and embarrassing me in front of the embassy staff,” Mariam said during a Facebook live debate with Teresa Leila of Our Diversity. “He started to call meetings specifically to criticize me. I wrote to the [South Sudan] ministry of foreign affairs to no avail.”
I decided to change my residences several times and could not escape from him. He requested at one point to borrow 2000 Euros and when I didn’t comply, she suspended me without pay.”
