Ex-oil minister says his successor thought he was not happy about his appointment

June 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Former South Sudan Petroleum Minister, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, said his successor, Awou Daniel Chuang, who was appointed last week by president Salva Kiir, thought he was not happy about his appointment.

Gatkuoth made the remarks in Juba on Tuesday during a ceremony attended by many people in which he handed over the ministry to the newly appointed minister.

When I was informed about the appointment of Awou Daniel Chuang, I was celebrating in Nigeria, in Abuja,” he said.

I called Awou and it was Lino who picked it up I said Lino congratulations I was laughing I was very exited,” he added. 

He said he asked for the the newly appointed minster to be given the phone so that he can congratulates him saying his voice was down because he might thought he was not happy about his appointment.

I said where is Awou, immediately he gave [the phone] to Awou. I called him, and told him ‘Gargur congratulations’,” he said.

His voice was down. I don’t know why, maybe he thought I would not be happy,” he added.
