August 27, 2021—The Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed has briefed South Sudan’s President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit about an ongoing anarchy in Tigray region.
This comes after President Kiir and his accompanying delegation paid a one-day working visit to Ethiopian capital, Adidas Abba on Thursday 26th of August 2021.
According to the South Sudan’s Presidential Press Unit, the visit aims to boost mutual and bilateral ties between the two countries.
“The visit comes in context to discuss key bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern, focusing on strengthening economic ties and joint infrastructure development for the two countries”, the statement reads.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit was briefed by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed on the ongoing crisis in Tigray region”, the statement added.
According to the statement, President Salva Kiir expressed concern in finding an amicable solution on the border issue between the Sudan and Ethiopia as well as the internal conflict between the Tigray and the Government of Ethiopia.
The conflict between Tigray People’s Liberation Front and federal government has been going on for months but so far no stability is achieved in the region.
