Ethiopia made a mistake to build Dam without permission from Egypt: Irrigation Ministry Official

Salva Kiir Mayardit (L) being welcomed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on 10th January 2017 [Egyptian Presidency – Handout/Anadolu]
25, January 2017 (Nyamilepedia) — A South Sudanese official has blamed Ethiopia for recent crisis that has brought suspicion between countries sharing the Nile waters. This comes just weeks after reports on media that Ethiopian rebels have opened a base inside South Sudan.

The official who is an Advisor at the ministry of Water and Irrigation in Juba has told Nyamilepedia that the recent crisis between countries sharing the Nile water was caused by Ethiopia, accusing Ethiopia of building its largest Dam on the Nile without taking permission from Egypt.

[ad name=”Google Ads 03″]

“Well to be honest, the blame lay squarely on them ‘Ethiopians’, they rushed to build the dam without consultation or approval from Egypt, that is unacceptable in international diplomacy” Peter Garang Malual told the reporter

The official said Egypt had the right to protect its interests in the Nile and so does any other country in the region adding that “Ethiopia should not blame South Sudan for that problem”.

Another government official also said last week that South Sudan was not Afraid of Ethiopia raising worries that the two countries might not have surpass their differences over President Kiir’s recent visit to Egypt.

A Middle East newspapers reported that the two Presidents of Egypt and South Sudan agreed on what they called a “dirty deal” to try and block or sabotage Ethiopia from completing construction of its Renaissance Dam on the river Nile.

Egypt is concerned the Dam could reduce the amount of water reaching the North Africa country.

The official said the recent meeting between South Sudan’s President Kiir and Egyptian President Al-Fatah Al-Sisi was to consolidate the historical relations between Egypt and South Sudan and to show the Egyptian people that South Sudan government will stand with them in the face of any threat be it from any country in the region or beyond.

“Our President told the Egyptians that we are ready to stand with them against any threat from Ethiopia, the region or even beyond, we cannot compromise on such issues of close relations” Said Peter Garang Malual an Advisor at the ministry of Irrigation.

Malual said his government still stands by any agreements with the Egyptian government, saying Egypt has been giving more support to South Sudan compared to other countries int he region.

“We stand by the agreement, those who do not want it, is now there own problems, they cannot threatened us, we are not worried about anything” Said Peter Garans Malual Advisor to the ministry or Irrigation and waters

According to various media sources South Sudan and Egypt agreed to take several measure against Ethiopia if it does not recognise Egypt rights to access full Nile Waters, the action would include indirect support to Ethiopian armed opposition, opening a rebel training base inside South Sudan and covert support to cause popular uprisings and instability as a means to sabotage the building of the Renaissance Dam.

South Sudanese officials have publicly denied working with Egypt to target Ethiopia or giving any support to Ethiopian rebels, however Ethiopian government has accused Egypt of supporting its armed opposition and also giving support to various groups to cause instability and regime change in Ethiopia.

South Sudan’s Water and Irrigation ministry is known to get heavy financial and technical support from Egypt in return for supporting Egyptian position on Nile Water issues.

Garang Malual said the blame for any regional instability would be put squarely on the Ethiopian government.

“Any blame will have to be put on them…… ‘Ethiopian’, they need to admit their mistakes, they are the ones who start this misunderstandings due to lack of consultations by their government, they did not get the permission” A smiling Malual concluded.

“Ethiopia will stretch her hands to God” (Ps 68:31).

The LORD your God will
make you the head and not
the tail—placing you above
and not beneath—if you
obey the commands of the
LORD your God that I’m
giving you today to keep
and observe” (Deuteronomy
28:13).
This ancient promise to
the Jewish people is
happening today in
Ethiopia as the God of

Now is the time for Ethiopia!

Well well, I think its and indication that, the Juba Regime is digging its own grave. Above all its a real paradox, Ethiopians have died for the people of South Sudan, we have a shared blood line .I am sure this is a concern of one ignorant corrupted government official hired by Egypt Govt. I know the people of South Sudan, they are real people and they know their historical relation ship. It has passed lots of ups and downs, but the bond is very strong and no one cant break it. Long live the people of South Sudan and The People of Ethiopia. Ethiopia doesn’t need any permission to use its natural resources you idiot .

To the South Sudan official or the journalist, – fix your small country, which is plagued by clan war. Ethiopia does not need to ask Egypt to do what it wants. It is a slave mentality to ask for permission. If Ethiopia was wrong, international community would condemn her. But so far no major countries like USA and EU condemned Ethiopia. By the way no Sudanese is allowed to travel to USA.

We Ethiopians can destroy your South Sudan war-torn country in a second. And take down Egypt in a blink of an eye. We are not scared either and we can do with our Nile what ever we want. So whoever wrote this senseless, stupid article. Be careful of what you are writing. Your country has many internal problems, so take care of that before you even mention of dealing with Ethiopia.

Oh well it’s too late to say anything now. The guy running south Sudan, is acting like a mad dog waiting to be unleashed by Egypt so, it will do its dirty job; nothing more than a tool.
And if I put history in perspective, did Sudan and Egypt ask a consent or inform Ethiopia in any case when their slave master hand them the unfair share of OUR Nile; while we Ethiopian are the contributor 85% of the water? We are kind and thoughtful enough to even explain to them that it won’t affect them in anyway and sense.

Here is the thing, what’s a headache for Egypt is not the threat of interruption of the water rather, 4 billion tons of our fertile soil that is being washed away from our land to pumper their desert land every year,
So, all this crap talk has no longer a place in this current day and age and as we did NOT sign any agreement, we not abide by any international law that dictate how and when to use of our natural resources. If that doesn’t make any one happy then let them be!!

Do really they think quarrelling with Ethiopia will benefit them?

We will see what is going to happen to them in the bear future; not to Ethiopia.

Do really they know how the racist Egyptians see them which is not even as humans?

Nothing much you can do against Etiopian interest.

Don’t forget that we are housing more South Sudanese comparable with the number of people living in Juba. Egypt can show nothing.

I think S.S. administration shall appreciate theis before going a far distance to EGYPT.

There is nothing to pick up from Egypt; it is by itself on a slow fire on political, financial, ecological, social,…name it.

The worst scenario for Ethiopia regarding the Renaissance dam is to get the dam cmpletely finished, then destroyed by an enemy; be it Egypt or any imaginary group BEFORE IT IS SUBSTANTIALLY filled with water.
Realistically, there may be a two or three years window for this to happen.

Looking at the general preparedness of our adversaries it is near to impossible to do any substantial harm on OUR DAM. The numbers just did not add up.

It is time to stop the flow of nile completly until the dam is full. Afterwards Egypt should pay for every drop of water
if not divert the river to our dry but fertile part of the country.
the prophecy by Josaya is going to be fulfiled which says the river nile will be dry for Egypt.
South Sudan government commited suicide.

You have a good point Kematit:

If Egypt is openly an enemy to Ethiopia, then we can fill the damage pretty quickly; in a most aggressive scenario in TWO years. (This instead of 5 to seven years filling scenario)

Remember the Renaissance damage capacity is Only ONE AND HALF YEAR total flow of Abay.

This way the damage can protect itself from an enemy like Egypt.

Look the comment section below, bunch of Tigres barking to protect a racist minority (6%) Tigre dominated government. In South Sudan, Dinkas are at least 35% and they have a right reason to contest for the leading role in the country. The Nuer should understand this and work with them in peace, than running away with AK47s.

I expect South Sudanese to care for each other and declare peace in their land. That is the only way to uplift yourself from a perpetual poverty, use your resources such as Oil that you have in abundance. The Ethiopian people love South Sudanese people. We have no issue people to people.

Egypt has a right reason to question about the dam. In Ethiopia we have rainfall, in Egypt they have zero precipitation per year. NOthing, nada. So it is not surprising if Egyptians are outraged by the action of the Ethiopian regime. The Tigre regime in Addis Ababa uses the dam as a bargaining chip, and trust me they might actually halt the construction of the OLF takes some two major towns.

Are you snorting cocaine? Do you realize what you’re suggesting? You expect Ethiopians to be at the mercy of nature which is unpredictable, and stand outside with buckets waiting for rain? In the meantime, Egyptians get to use running water from faucets and water for toilets. I guess you think that’s fair. Egypt has a right to raise questions about the dam, but they have absolutely no right to cite ridiculous treaties that Ethiopia had no obligation to in the first place. Egypt has no right to use subversive acts, if they are doing just that, to stop Ethiopia from exercising her sovereignty. Are you sure you’re black, because you kiss a lot of Egyptian booty.

David you are confusing the Ethiopia of the Bible, which was Kush/Nubia with the Ethiopia of today much of which descended from the Axumite Empire which descended from the Sabeans (of the famous Queen of Sheba) who lived in modern-day Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Yemen.

Reply
David Garang January 28, 2017 at 11:11 am

Lee, the Ethiopia mentioned biblical prophecies are the same as the Ethiopia of today. There is no ambiguity or confusion about this fact. Besides Christianity, other major world religions, such as Judaism and Islam, also have mentioned Ethiopia in their prophecies and eschatology as a country that forms alliance with evil in the end times. Ethiopia is demonic and its rulers are satanic.

David, this is misuse of the Bible for political purpose. Politics is dirty game and politicians play it without consulting their people. Both Ethiopians and South Sudanese people are not aware of the detail behind what you said. If you are a politician, don’t be emotional and just react to current action. Rather think wide open and write a better history. If you are Christian citizen, just pray for our politicians to get the wisdom and lead us in a better way. You can’t judge and pray at the same time.

Ethiopia has a right for its waters and build the dam without asking anybody. Egypt should find sources of waters wherever they could find them. Egyptian government should not intimidate the governments on the river Niles where the sources waters flow. Diplomatic gesture should resolves without confrontation.

Who bewitched you to have evil deals with Egypt against Ethiopia and not even to recall our support of your movement? Sorry! For Dinka led government in Juba. Don’t you know even in the Bible that Ethiopia and South Sudan could have unbreakable relation one to another? Do you know the word Cush? Please calm down your useless plans against Ethiopia. We can’t even compare fighting between Ethiopia and South Sudan, Egypt and Sudan. It can be pale comparison! If fighting may happen, South Sudan can be dens of hyenas and not people forever. We’re sovereign, therefore we don’t have to ask permission to use our own resources. We are not like South Sudan that ask permission to use her petroleum from Uganda leader; Yoweri Museveni so far since from Dr. John Garang de Mabior who died from plane crash.

Actually, the latest news is that the South Sudan ambassador has dismissed all of these rumors. It seems that someone in social media is trying to instigate a war between Ethiopia and South Sudan (Egypt by proxy) or a direct confrontation with Egypt to hurt the current Ethiopian regime (whether they be good or bad in reality) but more immediately, give Egypt a window to destroy the Grand Renaissance Dam.

Egypt to investigate ‘dogs and slaves’ remarks after Kenya complaint

The incident allegedly happened during a UN summit in Nairobi
Egypt has said it will investigate accusations that one of its officials called sub-Saharan Africans “dogs and slaves” during a conference in Nairobi.
The allegation has been made by a Kenyan diplomat, who says Egypt should be stopped from representing Africa in any negotiations.
But Cairo says there are no indications such language has been used, and has demanded any recorded evidence.
The case could raise tensions between Egypt and its sub-Saharan neighbours.
In a formal complaint, Yvonne Khamati, chairwoman of the African Diplomatic Corps Technical Committee, said the remarks were made by the head of the Egyptian delegation at the UN Environmental Assembly last week.
Divisions at the meeting arose after a resolution on Gaza was not passed due to lack of quorum, she said.
Consultations were then made by different delegations to discuss the issue. The comment, in Arabic, was made during talks with the Egyptian team, Ms Khamati said.
“[The comments] are uncivilized, undiplomatic, irresponsible, degrading and insulting,” she said in the document dated 29 May, which has been widely shared on social media.
She demanded an apology and that Egypt did not take any leadership position on behalf of Africa.
The Egyptian official has not been identified.
Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement that its minister, Sameh Shoukry, demanded an “immediate investigation to uncover the truth” and that the necessary measures would be taken.
“All of the information available to the ministry thus far indicates that no such language was used by the Egyptian representative,” the ministry said on its Facebook page.
“We reject any attempts to cast doubt on Egypt’s belonging to Africa and its defence of the continent’s interests,” it added
The ministry also said it would send a document to be distributed to all African countries “expressing Egypt’s rejection and denunciation of [Ms Khamati’s] exceeding of her mandate”.
Ties between Egypt and its sub-Saharan neighbours have been at odds over disputes including how River Nile waters should be shared by the countries it passes through.

If you don’t believe the ambassador who is not speaking anonymously, why do you trust the “sources” that are speaking anonymously? Think about it. If it’s true they aren’t afraid of Ethiopia, as has been reported, assuming they have an anti-Ethiopian agenda in the first place, why not come right out and say it?
