September 9, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) raided Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) Offices in Nairobi Industrial Area over COVID-19 funds misappropriation.
According to eyewitnesses, no employee or visitor was allowed in or out of the premises as the gates were sealed off.
In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia Press, the EACC detectives confiscated files and computers that they believed could aid in investigations into the COVID-19 funds misappropriation.
Among the issues being investigated was how tenders were awarded to companies associated to politicians and influential businessmen in the country who never met their end of the bargain.
“The raid was conducted very early in the morning and the agency is keen to find the truth,” said EACC Spokesman Yassin Amaro.
KEMSA also confirmed the raid saying that the confiscated materials will aid in the ongoing probe.
“KEMSA remains committed to offering reliable, quality and affordable Health Products and Technology (HTPs) to all Kenyans even as these investigations go on,” Kemsa stated.
The raid comes a day after other members of KEMSA staff were grilled by he EACC.
Among the people questioned so far are KEMSA CEO Jonah Manjari, Board Chairman Kembi Gitura and Board members and Select staff.
So far, Kemsa CEO Jonah Manjari and some procurement officers believed to have been involved in the awarding of tenders have stepped aside to pave way for the investigations.
