The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) commissioner Paulino Zizi told Nyamilepedia from the Western Equatoria state capital Yambio in an exclusive interview this morning that hundreds of civilians from the neighboring DRC have fled to some areas along the border with DRC following attacks by the LRA.
“Many hundreds of civilians from the Democratic Republic of Congo have been displaced in that country and are now seeking refuge in our country. They are now in areas along the borders with the DRC and they need food,” Zizi said from Yambio.
He said there were concerns that the DRC refugees may spread Ebola as well as the coronavirus which has affected almost 60 people in the country and that arrangements are being made to deploy medical workers in the areas along the border.
“You there is another outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo and there is also the coronavirus which is already here in the country. So there are concerns that these viruses maybe spread to our country by these refugees,” he said.
“Arrangements currently are being made to make sure that all these are prevented from spreading via cross-border,” he added.
Zizi further revealed that the Ugandan rebels led by renegade Joseph Kony have carried out a series of attacks over the past few weeks in villages inside the DR Congo that resulted in killings and the abduction of young men and girls.
