May 18th 2017 (Nyamilepedia) – Young South Sudanese leaders who have been selected by the United States Embassy in Juba to participate in the Mandela Washington Fellowship program for the year 2018 have received a pre-departure orientation provided by the Embassy’s Office for Public Affairs prior to their departure, the Embassy announced in a statement on its Social Media Facebook page.
“On Tuesday, May 15th, the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Juba organized a pre-departure orientation (PDO) for eight young South Sudanese leaders who will be going to the US to take part in the 2018 Mandela Washington Fellowship #MWF2018Â program,” the statement said.
“The fellowship will empower these young leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking.” it added
The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, begun in 2014, is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) that empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking. This year, 2018, the Fellowship will provide 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa with the opportunity to hone their skills at a U.S. college or university with support for professional development after they return home.
