Eight people arrested in Tonj in connection to violence over county name

December 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Authorities in South Sudan’s Tonj state said they have arrested eight people in connection to violence over the naming of a recently created County.

Last week, fighting erupted between clan sections of Moch and Panarik after a group of state government officials accompanied a newly appointed county commissioner to Alabe County headquarters to take over.

Some clans were opposition the naming of the county as Alabe saying they want the name be changed to Lou County which led to deadly fighting between the two clans killing scores.

“The number has so far increased and we have arrested 8 suspects, we are still pursuing other suspects who are accused of being inciters of the recent conflict,” William Wol, the state information minister said.

“Currently the security apparatus is still searching for whoever is accused for inciting people in Lou community,” he added.
