July 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The head of the Egyptian General Intelligence (GIS), Abbas Kamel, visited South Sudan’s capital Juba on Wednesday and met the country’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, sources and the presidency said.
One source said Egypt’s top spy chief had conveyed a message from the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to President Salva Kiir Mayardiit. Although the source declined to comment over “many issues discussed”, he said the meeting between the President and the Egyptian envoy focused on military and economic ties.
“I will not comment on all and the many issues discussed. I will focus on the important part of the meeting. The President and the visiting Egyptian intelligence general focused much on the cooperation between the two countries both military and economic,” the source at the presidency told the Nyamilepedia on Sunday.
Last week, South Sudan’s presidency announced in a statement the arrival of the Egyptian intelligence chief to the capital Juba. Without giving details, the statement by the presidency announced the meeting between the two.
“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit met today at the State House with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi Special Envoy, Mr. Abbas Kamel, Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence,” the presidential statement issued on Wednesday reads.
“Mr. Abbas discussed with the President strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them in order to serve the interests of the two countries,” it added.
