Mary said that she will work toward implementing the peace agreement as per the provisions of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU).

“Under the guidelines of R-ARCISS document, I am not just to be the Deputy Governor for Eastern Equatoria but to participate in implementing the peace agreement through advancing genuine healing and reconciliation at the community level,” Mary said.

She believes that it is through grassroots movement and connecting people through local community initiatives that are paramount to the socio-economic development.

She said that she will be guided by personal reflections and putting the last first when executing her duties.

“I will be guided by personal reflections and motto of putting the last first, by conceptualizing Development Challenging Development Priorities—through reflection; and asking the question: ‘Whose reality prevails? Is it that of the grassroots or that of a manager?” she said

She will also use the power and participation reframing development, rural development, poverty, and Livelihoods – Exploring Sustainable Livelihoods.

The new deputy governor said that she will put the Vulnerable first, uncover the obvious, and implement the complex through priorities, addressing the issue of refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and those in the Protection of Civilian sites.

She will also pay a close attention to a programme that puts the farmer first and reversals for Agricultural development through parsimonious paradigms.

According to Mary, these projects are achievable during peace and in partnership with all the stakeholders of the R-TGoNU.

She said that there is nothing to hinder those kinds of approaches because they are meant for public good and benefit.

She added that through peace and reconciliations, grassroots initiatives can go hand in hand.

Mary appealed to embrace peace, reconciliation and development.

“Let us all leave the years of fighting in the year 2020, by opening our hearts to true peace, instability and development. There is nothing better than embracing peace, reconciliation, and development in the country among our people for present and future generations,” she said.
