Mar 14th 2018(Nyamilepdia) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, said Tuesday that the economic collapse that the country witnesses right now is the result of the power struggle between South Sudan’s leaders.
Speaking during a swearing-in ceremony for the incoming Finance Minister, Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, Kiir said “The forceful taking of power has brought us now to this stage where we have no money in our bank.”
President Salva Salva Kiir, however, did not mention who was forcefully trying to take power from him but he has been battling forces loyal to the country’s former vice president, Dr. Riek Machar, since December, 2013.
He said there is no any preparations put in place by the government to deterrent the economic collapse so that it is returned to normalcy “soon” citing the country’s lack of productivity.
“We have lost the value of our currency, and there is nothing we can do soon to regain our currency’s value unless we produce,”
Finance Minister Sworn in
South Sudan’s new Finance Minister, Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, was sworn in on Tuesday, one day after being appointed into the position.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, ‘J1’ and was attended by the Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut as well as high-ranking government officials.
Garang previously served as the first undersecretary in the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry.
