October 23rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – East African Community (EAC) legislators shouted during parliamentary session yesterday “South Sudan Must Go” to protest South Sudan membership in the regional body over its failure to pay membership fees.
The world’s youngest country which became an independent nation in July 2011 join the regional body in April 2016 but since then have never paid money members are required to pay annually.
The country paid $3 millions of a total $27 millions arrears but it is still facing possibility of being suspended.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, a South Sudan lawmaker in the regional parliament said regional MPs were shouting anti-South Sudan words yesterday and that they had to get out of the shouting to avoid confrontation with their regional counterparts.
“We were really disappointed by behaviors of our colleagues,” the lawmaker wh9o requested not to be named said. “They were shouting ‘South Sudan Must Go.’”
