Dr. Machar meets AU Ambassador, discuss peace deal

Sep 29, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The opposition leader, and South Sudan’s first vice president, Dr. Riek Machar Teny yesterday held a meeting with the African Union (AU) ambassador to South Sudan, Prof. Joram Biswaro to discuss the peace deal.

According to the first Vice President’s office press unit, prof. Joram appreciated the chairman and commander in chief of SPLM/SPLA (IO) for his commitment to peace by his leadership and party.

Ambassador Biswaro called on all the parties R-ARCSS to speed up the implementation of the peace agreement and silence the guns forever.

“The impression that I got is that his excellency is fully committed to silent the guns. That is the message I can take from here that SPLM-IO and his leadership is fully committed to see to it that guns in South Sudan remain silent forever” The AU Ambassador said.

The AU ambassador went on to say that Dr. Riek Machar’s side is ready to redouble the efforts to see to it that the missed timelines are caught up so that there shouldn’t be any pretext for extension.

This peace deal was signed on September 12 2018 by Dr. Riek Machar, President Salvar Kiir and other stakeholders in Ethiopia with a three-year transition.

The deal that was witnessed by the USA, United Kingdom and Norway has temporarily ended the 6 to 7 years of fighting.

Two years down the road, the affected citizens of South sudan are yet to see any fruits of the revitalized peace agreement; however, the parties believe that they may implement the R-ARCISS within the remaining one year.
