February 16th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has welcomed a decision by South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit to return the country to ten states but expressed reservations on administrative areas.
“We note the decision taken by President Salva Kiir in that respect, declaring that the administration of the country shall revert to the previous ten states plus three administrative areas,” the NDM said in a statement on Sunday referring to a decision by Kiir to revoke the 32 states.
“We consider the decision as a giant step forward in the resolution of the issue and we wholeheartedly welcome the spirit of compromise shown by the President on the matter. However we consider the inclusion of new administrative area in the decision to be unfortunate as it raises the same concerns occasioned by the previous 32 states,” the statement said.
The statement said the matter “needs to be ironed out quickly so that we leave the issue of the states behind us once and for all.”
“NMD believes that the decision of the government has made the prospects of forming the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) on time very much close: than any time before.”
SPLM-IO also issued a statement empathizing the concerns on Ruweng Administrative Area saying it affect the affects the peaceful coexistence between the people of Unity state like the 32 states.
