November 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of South Sudan’s National Democratic Movement (NDM) Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has challenged – in a tweet – leaders who were against the extension of the pre-transitional period.

The NDM is the only member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) which said it will not take part in the transitional government President Salva Kiir had said he would form despite the absence of pre-transitional tasks needed in place to form a unity government.

SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar had also threatened to opt out of the unity government if it is formed without the unified army provided for in the revitalized peace agreement in place.

Kiir on Thursday was forced to accept an extension for the pre-transitional period for three months after they concluded in Entebbe, Uganda, that not crucial progress was made during the last one year of tries from the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC).

In a tweet on Thursday, Dr. Lam challenged unnamed persons who were against the extension of the pre-transitional period to protest against the latest extension.

“Those who were at our necks that calling for an extension was against the interest of the South Sudanese common man and woman should now stage demonstrations against Kiir for having thrown that interest down the drain,” Dr. Lam wrote.

Although he didn’t name those leaders, it is apparent that Dr. Lam was directing the message to members of his SSOA.

Leaders of the two factions of SSOA told President Salva Kiir that the unity government must be in place on November 12th under the pre-text that the people’s suffering would be extended if the government formation was to be postponed.

They said the outstanding issues should be resolved by the new government.
