October 4,2021—-The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed has today taken an oath of office for a five-year term as the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the second time despite unfolding internal conflicts engulfing his country.
The federal government of Ethiopia under the leadership of Dr Abiy Ahmed felt-out since last year with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front in a conflict that claimed many lives from both sides and displaced thousands of people, internally and externally.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s ruling party, the Prosperity Party, won a landslide victory during elections organized over the last two months.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia from Addis Ababa, a senior official from the federal government who requested not to be named said the Ethiopian House of People’s Representatives approved Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s appointment as Prime Minister.
“Abiy was sworn-in before the Ethiopian Parliament which approved his appointment as Prime Minister for a five-year term, after his party won the elections held last June”, the senior government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Nyamilepedia.
He also revealed that the House of People’s Representatives (HoPR) has re-elected Tagesse Chafo as Speaker of House and elected Lomi Bedo as Deputy Speaker.
The government of Abiy has gone through external and internal challenges especially the case of Tigray Region which has been going for almost a year and external challenges posed by controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Last week, Ethiopian Government expelled some UN diplomats over their alleged interference in the Ethiopian domestic affairs. The top diplomats were declared ” Persona non grata” and given 72-hour ultimatum to exit the country especially seven individuals who have been accused of meddling in Ethiopia’s internal issues.
