April 23rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The United State government has warned the Americans about the danger of travelling to South Sudan where crimes such as kidnapping against foreigners have become familiar.
“Do not travel to South Sudan due to crime, kidnapping, and armed conflict,” partly read a South Sudan Travel Advisory issued by the US state department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs said by the Nyamilepedia.
It added that violence crimes “such as carjackings, shootings, ambushes, assaults, robberies, and kidnappings is common throughout South Sudan, including Juba.” It pointed out that “Foreign nationals have been the victims of rape, sexual assault, armed robberies, and other violent crimes.”
The oil-producing South Sudan, which became independent in 2011, descended into a brutal civil war in December 2013 following a dispute between Kiir and Machar that sparked fighting mostly fought along ethnic lines.
“Armed conflict is ongoing throughout the country and includes fighting between various political and ethnic groups, and weapons are readily available to the population,” the advisory partly read.
It added that “reporting in South Sudan without the proper documentation from the South Sudanese Media Authority is considered illegal, and any journalistic work there is very dangerous. Journalists regularly report being harassed in South Sudan, and many have been killed while covering the conflict in South Sudan.”
