March 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan prominent opposition politician, Deng Alor Kuol, who is also the leader of the SPLM-FDs [Former Detainees] delegation in Juba and member of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) said on Thursday that he is sure that the revitalized unity government will be formed in May.

Deng told reporters in the Egyptian capital Cairo that he is confident that all the preparations including security arrangement needed to be in place by 12th of May dateline will be completed soon.

He said the government will be formed in May and not necessarily by 12th of May but said it will be formed by May 2019.

“The government will be formed in May. The cantonment [of forces] will be completed before the 12th of May. So, there will be progress,” he said adding that the parties are committed to the smooth implementation of the revitalize peace agreement.

South Sudan government in September 2018 signed a revitalized version of the 2015 peace agreement with opposition groups including Alor’s FDs.

Other signatories includes the SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar, South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Gabriel Changson Chang and the other political parties in Juba led by Peter Mayen.

The agreement expects the parties to form a unity government with five vice presidents by May 12th which is the end of the eight-month pre-transitional period provided for in the revitalized agreement.
